From the commentary:
An enlightenment experience may come out of nowhere - suddenly, unbidden like a ripe blackberry falling from its stem to our tongues but actualizing this experience, moment after moment, is the practice of a lifetime - endlessly profound, boundless and infinite. It goes on forever. This is what Master Hakuin's teacher Shoju Roshi called, "Continuous and unremitting devotion to hidden practice, scrupulous application - that is the essence within the essence"
